BLS New Release: Omega’s latest Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon watch debuts with an all-ceramic construction. Ceramic is an inorganic non-metallic substance formed through high-temperature firing. This material enables the creation of high-density watch components with exceptional mechanical properties.Ceramic ranks among consumers’ most favored watch materials, valued for its striking, diverse hues and exceptional properties. Twice as light as stainless steel, ceramic offers superior wear resistance, high scratch resistance, biocompatibility, hypoallergenicity, and non-magnetic properties. This timepiece features a 44.25mm case housing a blackened movement. Laser ablation technology recreates the authentic lunar surface on the movement’s bridges, paying homage to the Speedmaster’s pivotal role in the Apollo 8 mission.Through the skeletonized dial crafted from black anodized aluminum, the Earth-facing side of the moon (near-Earth side) visible from our planet is clearly visible. The case back reveals the “dark side of the moon” (far-Earth side), a view reserved only for astronauts. The watch is paired with a black micro-perforated rubber strap, featuring a striking yellow rubber insert at its center. The entire watch is crafted from black ceramic, featuring a central chronograph seconds hand accented with yellow lacquer and a bezel adorned with laser-engraved, bright white enamel tachymeter scales. The small seconds hand is crafted from Grade 5 titanium, ingeniously shaped to resemble the Saturn V rocket. This 3D form is achieved through laser turning, with color variations created by applying white lacquer, laser ablation, and laser blackening techniques.
